LEARNING PILLS: LEARNING FROM A HOTEL PROFESSIONAL EXPERT
Within the framework of the Responsible Talent dimension of the Alimara University Hotelwe present you the Learning Pills, a dynamic learning format that gives an extra value to the training of the students of the CETT-UB. Together with professional experts in the sector, we create pedagogical experiences where students lead applied research and innovation projects in a real professional context, based on a process of "affective learning" as an experiential model in training.
Learning Pills, or training capsules, offer CETT-UB students the opportunity to spend a short period of time (between 2 and 4 hours) as observers at the hotel, under the supervision of a designated manager. These Learning Pills are available to all CETT-UB students, regardless of their background or academic course.
This strategy consists of "learning by watching" and consists of a training period in which students have the opportunity to observe a professional from Hotel Alimara during part of their working day. It is an experience based on shadowing, the objective of which is that the person becomes familiar with the tasks and learns from another person by watching what he or she does.
Learning Pills are a method that develops knowledge through practice and observation, which allows to quickly obtain a clear idea of the culture, the work environment of the company and the functions or performance expected of students when they enter the labor market. Currently, the following are offered Learning Pills corresponding to 8 departments of the hotel: Reservations, Front Desk, Front Desk, Floors, Food&Beverage, Breakfast, Events, Commissary and Commercial Department.
One of the CETT-UB students who has participated in the Learning Pills is Isabel García, who had the opportunity to participate in two training capsules: one on commercial events and the other on hotel breakfast management. We had the opportunity to accompany her during part of the experience so that she could share her impressions with us. Isabel explained to us that the motivation for participating in the Learning Pills was "because they are an opportunity to see how a hotel works from the inside and learn from the workers. They are a dynamic way to learn."
As for the learning extracted from this action of the Hotel Universitario Alimara, Isabel told us that "they allow you to put into practice the class contents and thus combine theory and practice, which makes learning much easier and more dynamic. They are small sessions that motivate you to keep learning."
The CETT-UB student also valued that "thanks to the Learning Pills I have been able to learn about the different departments of a hotel, its organization and its day-to-day functioning. I have also been able to see which areas I am most interested in dedicating myself to and thus define my future."
Finally, we asked him if he would recommend the experience to his classmates: "I would certainly recommend it to classmates who do not have hotel experience, but I would also recommend it to those who do not have hotel experience, but I would also recommend it to those who do not have hotel experience. are an opportunity for everyone because they allow you to learn from any department.. Also, the staff at Hotel Alimara is very welcoming and always try to help you and explain everything possible."
Actions such as the Learning Pills, with a learning methodology based on offering enriching experiences to CETT-UB students, exemplify the synergies created between the educational center and the Hotel Alimara, giving meaning to the concept of the University Hotel and creating valuable actions that serve to continue boosting the tourism and hotel sector.
