FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE HOTEL: HOW ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL MERGERS TRANSFORM A HOTEL BUSINESS
Framed within the Alimara University Hotelthe projects that are born in the classrooms of the CETT-UB and take place at the Hotel Alimara are actions that enrich the hotel's knowledge about the impact of its operations, while serving as training for the school's students.
On this occasion, the students of the International Hotel Management Degree of CETT-UB have participated in the third edition of a project called "Telling a story with data at Hotel Alimara". This action is developed as part of the evaluation of the subject "Introduction to data culture". This subject gives great importance to data management, and in each course they have at least one subject related to this topic.

The idea is to form working groups that are assigned a research case within the hotel to address:
- Problem.
- Impact on the hotel.
- Strategies to solve it.
Among the many benefits, this activity seeks to bring students closer to the hotel, navigate through its corridors, discover its organizational structure and learn about the work tools to detect opportunities for improvement. The challenge is to get the data, sort it, give it meaning, obtain insights and propose improvement strategies. Demonstrating that data, properly collected and analyzed, can transform the way a business works.
Javier Cohen, professor of the subject, proposes that "We study hotel management. We talk about data and a thousand concepts around them. We have the hotel 30 meters away from CETT and data abound there. It is our best 'patient' to study."

In this edition of the 2025-2026 course, students have focused on specific problems related to the normal operations of a hotel and have proposed improvements and solutions to be implemented in a real environment, generating a positive impact of the academic and professional merger.
These actions, based on active observation and with the collaboration of hotel professionals, have been related to various topics such as: the analysis of energy consumption, the optimization of check-in and check-out time, the analysis of online reviews and comments or the impact of corporate events on the hotel's regular bookings, among many others.
On January 14, the students will present their research in a 5-minute pitch where they will present the conclusions of their study and the proposals for improvements they have generated.
